The Culinary Institute of America
"The Culinary Institute of America" is a not for profit college based in New York with additional campuses in San Antonia Texas and St. Helena California. Being "not for profit " means acting for the public interest and as such the institute doesn't need to answer to shareholders. The college is funded by various means including student tuition fees and donations.
Initially based in Connecticut the institute was established in 1946 by Frances Roth and Katharine Angell and was then known as the New Haven Restaurant Institute. The original intention of the institute was to train returning World War II veterans in the culinary arts.
